During Catholic Education Week, Archbishop Charles Duval visited Good Shepherd School (K-6) and Glenmary School (Grades 7-12) in Peace River, celebrating faith, learning, and community with students, staff, and members of the Catholic education community.
The morning began at Good Shepherd School with a prayer service led in the presence of Archbishop Duval, who blessed the Fr. Merx Courtyard and the Sue McGowan Prayer Space (Chapel), named in honour of the school’s former principal.
The celebration brought together former school colleagues, parishioners, representatives from the school division’s Central Office -including Superintendent Cornick, Deputy Superintendent Goudreault, Board Chair Whalen, and Vice-Chair Kuran- as well as students in Grades 4-6 and school staff.
Following the prayer service, Archbishop Duval visited classrooms alongside Principal Gaudreau and Nicola Quigley, the Division Faith Formation Coordinator. The visit was warmly welcomed by everyone involved, highlighting the strong connection between faith, education, and community life.
In the afternoon, His Grace continued his visit at Glenmary School, where he blessed the school chapel and spent time visiting classrooms. A special moment was a spiritual knowledge challenge that brought the archbishop and students together in a friendly exchange of questions and answers, testing their knowledge of the faith. The activity created an enjoyable and engaging experience for everyone.
These visits to the two Catholic schools in Peace River offered a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Catholic education and strengthen the role of faith in the daily lives of students and the entire school community.
