Jubilee Year 2025:
Pilgrims of Hope

The Holy See has announced that the Jubilee Year of 2025 will be marked by the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”. This theme calls us to reflect on how we can exemplify the theological virtue of hope even amidst a world as troubled as our own.

There will be a variety of commemorative events, pilgrimages and other initiatives as part of this Jubilee Year. Our archdiocese has prepared several resources as well as a year-long archdiocesan pilgrimage to help us commemorate this most sacred year locally.

Marian Pilgrimage of Hope

Throughout the Jubilee Year, we are encouraging faithful of the Archdiocese to embark on a Marian Pilgrimage of sorts.

The “Pilgrim’s Passport” provides a special prayer chaplet, reflecting upon the ways Mary exemplifies the virtue of hope. We encourages persons in the archdiocese to offer these prayers at the various Marian churches, Marian grottos and/or any Marian statues or icons in our churches around the archdiocese. (All Marian churches and grottos are identified in the passport).

We assume that just about every church in our archdiocese has at least one statue or icon of Mary, so in this way, we ensure every church is a part of this pilgrimage and all persons can participate.

Through the intercession of Mary, may we all act as “Pilgrims of Hope” this Jubilee Year.

Jubilee Events

Over the course of the 2025 “Pilgrims of Hope” Jubilee Year, the Catholic Church is proposing a multitude of individual jubilee celebrations. We have provided a Jubilee Year Program to our parishes and deaneries to offer guidance and directives in honouring these Jubilee events in our communities.

On Saturday, October 4th, the Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan will host a Jubilee Year Mass and celebration of succession for Most Rev. Charles Duval, CSsR, as the 6th Archbishop of Grouard-McLennan. These celebrations will be held at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in McLennan. The Mass will be held at 2:30 pm, followed by dinner and entertainment at Centre Chevaliers (The Pink Elephant) in Falher at 5:00 pm.

This event will be an opportunity to celebrate the Pilgrims of Hope Jubilee Year as an archdiocesan family and to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the dedication of St. John the Baptist Cathedral. The Coat of Arms of Archbishop Duval will be displayed in its new home at the cathedral and Archbishop Pettipas will ceremoniously hand over his crozier to Duval.

This celebration will also be an opportunity to honour the ministry of Archbishop Gerard Pettipas, CSsR, and to offer him best wishes for a well deserved retirement. Special miraculous medals of the Blessed Mother and prayer cards of Pope Leo XIV will be distributed in honour of our Jubilee Year Pilgrimage. Each deanery will process a special banner representing the five regions of the archdiocese, and more. Get further details here.

We hope to see as many of our priests and parishioners as possible for this special Jubilee celebration in McLennan!
