Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

The Theme of the upcoming 49th  International Eucharistic Congress to be held in Quebec City, June 2008  is “The Eucharist, gift of God for the life of the world.” This theme has also been adopted as the theme for our celebration of Catholic Education Sunday, this November 4th. It is an invitation for us to grow in our identity as a Eucharistic people, a people called to become what we receive, “the Body of Christ” for the world.
The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy quoting 1 Tim.2:4 opens with the words: “God wills that all peoples be saved and come to the knowledge of truth”.
The Eucharist is both the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed and the fount from which all of her power flows. The celebration of the Lord’s Supper is truly the encounter with the Risen Lord that animates and strengthens us to be for the world a presence of Christ that proclaims Life, Love and Hope for a world yearning for liberation and truth. As a pilgrim people and companions on a faith journey, we are constantly in a state of becoming and transformation. 
Catholic Education pursues and proclaims truth.  “True education is directed towards the formation of the human persons in view of their final end and the good of that society to which they  belong and the duties of which they will, as an adult, have a share”. (Declaration on Christian Education, 1)
The General Directory for Catechesis sees the Catholic school as a most important place for human and Christian formation.  When we provide our young people with an authentic experience of communities of faith and caring, where people are formed in the knowledge that all people are created in the image and likeness of God, we are providing a fertile ground in which the seeds of the Gospel can grow and bear fruit for the world.
We are deeply grateful to all those parents, teachers, administrators, trustees and support staff, indeed, all those who see themselves as integral to the formation process at hand, to help our young people come to a deeper appreciation of who they are as sons and daughters of God.

As we celebrate Catholic Education Sunday, may this Theme: “The Eucharist, gift of God for the life of the world,” move us to become true communities of inspiration, affirmation and prophetic character. May our Catholic schools be a real source of light to the world by the way we gather to study and learn to be a people redeemed and liberated by the passion, death and resurrection of Our Lord.

Chers frères et sœurs dans le Christ,

Le thème du 49e Congrès Eucharistique International qui se tiendra à Québec en juin 2008 est « L’Eucharistie, don de Dieu pour la vie du monde ».  Ce thème fut aussi adopté comme thème de notre célébration du dimanche de l’éducation catholique, le 4 novembre 2007.  C’est une invitation à approfondir notre identité comme peuple Eucharistique, un peuple appelé à devenir ce qu’il reçoit, « le Corps du Christ » pour le monde.

La Constitution sur la Sainte Liturgie cite la première lettre de Paul à Timothée (ch.2.v.4) lorsqu’elle commence avec les paroles, « Dieu veut que tous les hommes soient sauvés et parviennent à la connaissance de la vérité.»

L’Eucharistie est le sommet auquel tend l’action de l’Église, et en même temps la source d’où découle toute sa vertu.  La célébration du dernier repas du Seigneur est une véritable rencontre avec le Seigneur ressuscité qui nous anime et nous renforce afin que nous soyons pour le monde la présence du Christ qui proclame la Vie, l’Amour et l’Espoir à un monde assoiffé de liberté et de vérité.  Comme pèlerins et comme peuple de fidèles cheminant ensemble dans la foi, nous sommes constamment en voie de devenir et de transformation.

L’éducation catholique poursuit et proclame la vérité.  « Le but que poursuit la véritable éducation est de former la personne humaine dans la perspective de sa fin suprême, en même temps que du bien des sociétés dont l’homme est membre, et dont, une fois devenue adulte, il aura à partager les obligations. » (Déclaration sur l’Éducation Chrétienne, 1)

L’annuaire général sur la catéchèse estime que l’école catholique est l’endroit le plus important pour la formation humaine et chrétienne.  Lorsqu’on donne aux jeunes l’expérience authentique d’une communauté de foi et de compassion, où on les forme dans la connaissance que toute personne est créée à l’image et à la ressemblance de Dieu, on leur offre un sol fertile dans lequel les semences de l’Évangile peuvent croître et porter fruit pour le monde.

Nous sommes profondément reconnaissants envers tous nos parents, nos enseignants, nos administrateurs, et nos employés de soutien, en effet, tout ceux et celles qui se considèrent nécessaires au processus de formation immédiate, qui assistent nos jeunes à approfondir leur appréciation de qui ils sont comme fils et filles de Dieu.

Dans nos célébrations du dimanche de l’éducation catholique, puisse le thème « L’Eucharistie, don de Dieu pour la vie du monde » nous encourager à devenir de véritables communautés d’inspiration, d’affirmation et à caractère prophétique.  Par notre façon d’étudier et d’apprendre ensemble à être un peuple racheté et libéré par la passion, la mort et la résurrection de Notre Seigneur, puissent nos écoles catholiques être de véritables sources de lumière pour le monde
